I appreciate you putting this out there. I have read the studies you have cited before, I have been frustrated by this issue for years. I am a Type 1, diagnosed 38 years ago. I have gone through many endocrinologists and other clinicians who have pushed lower A1C but they did not fully comprehended the ramifications of what they were doing. A1C is an average. My concern is no one talks about lowering the standard deviation (SD) in my blood sugars readings. If we are able to close the gap in the SD, in addition to lowering it, we would be in better control. Unfortunately this comes back on us to do as patients, and in many cases trying to reduce the damage that has been done already by rollercoaster blood sugars resulting from pushing to get lower a A1C.
